A work of architecture is a complex system of components. It is the result of a process of organization. This logic transcends scale to cover connections between materials, the articulation of monuments, the construction of class-hierarchies in society, and the creation of boundaries.
Within the city, architecture forms a system of objects that give meaning to the urban environment. Architecture creates a background that allows individuals to define identities amidst the infinite possibilities of contemporary life. In second modernity, architecture is increasingly determined by code imposed by the city.
